An outdoor furnace placed in your yard burns wood, coal, or in the case of the Pelco, either coal or pellets. The firebox is surrounded by a water jacket filled with a water/antifreeze solution.
Heat is transferred via hot water pipes buried underground from your furnace to the building(s) you wish to heat. Inside the heated building, a small circulating pump keepsthe water flowing through various heat exchanging units. This is known as Hydronic heating.
